Designed to Perform
November 13th, 2008 by Neat
NeatReceipts and NeatDesk are our first original hardware designs, and while we love their clean, modern look, we believe function is as important as form. NeatDesk is built for speed and jam-free scanning, designed intuitively for the way we all sort and organize our paper.
NeatDesk has been selected as an Innovations 2009 Design and Engineering Award honoree by the Consumer Electronics Association. The esteemed Innovations Design and Engineering Award selects winners based on:
• Engineering qualities, technical specs and materials used
• Aesthetic and design qualities
• The product’s intended use/function and user value
The Neat Company was granted design patents on both scanners in October 2008. Design patents may be granted to companies or individuals who invent a new, original, and ornamental design for an article of manufacture. They protect the aesthetic properties of the product. The United States Patent & Trademark Office issued the patents on the basis that the aesthetics of the Neat scanner designs are novel and non-obvious in the scanner market.
Further validating the superior design, NeatDesk and NeatReceipts were both honored for superior hardware at the 2008 International Spark Design Awards, winning the coveted Spark! Award in October 2008. The Spark Awards is an international design competition recognizing new processes and technology from designers and companies large and small. More than 360 entrees were considered for the 2008 Awards with only 17 awarded the coveted Spark! Award. Additionally, NeatReceipts’ sleek new look landed it a spot alongside other Smart Design clients in Fast Company’s annual Masters of Design issue.

You know I am really temped to buy one of these.. Only thing holding me back is the lack of 64 bit support for Vista. Get support for that and consider me sold on buying one.

Hi,
I’m considering purchasing NeatReceipts for Mac, but I probably would rather get the NeatDesk scanner. When do you expect to have a Mac version of NeatDesk? Also, are the Windows version and Mac version of NeatReceipts the same? (the hardware, not the software) I can get a NeatReceipts scanner at my local Costco but it doesn’t say anything on the packaging about Mac support. If I purchase it from Costco, can I use it with the Mac version of software downloaded from your website?
Thanks,
-Dave

Hi Alex - The latest release of NeatWorks 4.0 is now 64-bit compatible. It will begin shipping with the product by the end of the year, or you can buy one now and download the compatible software by contacting Customer Support. Thanks for your interest!

Dave - we are actively working on making the NeatDesk ADF scanner compatible with the Mac, and hope to have that available soon. The mobile scanners are exactly the same for both the PC and Mac product, so you could absolutely pick up a NeatReceipts at Costco, then download the Mac software for free from our site. Thanks!

The Scanner works fine, unfortunately I have only used it as a decoration piece for my desk. Without the program that works with the Windows database, the scanner is as good as dead. My NeatWorks version 4.0 worked fine for a while and then the database couldn’t be opened. . . . .and there is nothing on the face of this Earth that will make it work. I think that before making it work with the Mac, I recomend that the bug on the Windows software be fixed so we can enjoy it !

I love your software, I often however purchase stuff online and get a email or just a webpage for the invoice/receipt. Any plans on being able to import this into your software?
Thanks

A receipt jammed in the scanner and now I am unable to scan documents. What do you think the problem is? I have opened the scanner and removed any excess paper, and restarted the system. However, it continues to say insert paper.
Help!!

I purchased Neat Desk on 2/9/09 I received it last week and installed the software on Friday when our IT person was on premises. The software will not open and there is no answer for the error we are getting in the troubleshooting questions. I tried chatting online with no success. Instead I received an e-mail back asking me more questions. I answered them yesterda and I am yet to get the answer or be able to talk to a support person. I think it will be great when I can get it to work. Support needs to be improved. People these days need problems solved faster than this!!

Deb - I’m sorry you are having difficulties with the installation and with contacting Customer Support. We are experiencing very high call volume right now due to high sales in the holiday and tax seasons, and are doing everything possible to ensure all our customers’ questions are answered in a timely fashion. We apologize for the delays, and truly hope you enjoy using your new NeatDesk!
